3 Ways Nonprofits Can Protect Themselves from Cyber-Attacks

It’s 2018. Do you  know how secure your organization is? Cyber-attacks are constantly evolving, and your organization’s cyber defenses need to evolve as well.Nonprofit cyber security tips

I’ve compiled 3 ways your organization can fight cyber-attacks:

  1. Upgrade your computers and software: This may seem like a no brainer, but we still see some organizations that aren’t keeping all their computers and software up to date. This is a huge problem and can be one of the easiest ways your organization gets infiltrated.

Here are 5 signs you need to upgrade your computers and software.

  1. Password Strength and Security: Make sure all the people in your organization, including remote workers and consultants, are using the most up to date password protection techniques available. Also, I highly recommend using multi-factor authentication on all your organization’s critical system logins.

Here are some tips for strong, secure passwords & other authentication tools.

  1. Encrypting Email and Cloud Storage: I believe clients’ personal information, contracts, R&D projects, acquisition projects and other highly sensitive information needs to be encrypted. This data should be encrypted internally and externally when sending information from your organization. This is a must for organizations and businesses of all sizes.

Check out Norton’s article on the importance of encryption.

Summary

Make sure your organization understands the importance of cyber security best practices. Assess your organization’s systems and software and make sure they are up to date. Finally, don’t forget to protect your critical email and cloud storage with encryption. These are some of the basic things your organization can do now to help protect yourselves against today’s cyber threats.
