Bernholz' 2014 report on philanthropy and technologyEvery year, for the last five years, self-proclaimed philanthropy wonk Lucy Bernholz has written an annual report predicting the vicissitudes of the ongoing relationship between philanthropy and technology. The 2014 issue came out today. If you’re at all interested in the big picture, it’s a stimulating read, covering both policy issues and interesting uses of technology.

This year, Lucy has broadened her view to include Europe, and she plans to expand further in the future. You can download a PDF of the report for free from GrantCraft. Previous issues are also available there. Reading them is a great way to catch up on some trends you may have missed.

Finally, each report contains a list of current buzzwords. For me, this year’s favorite is “randomista,” which Bernholz defines as “The tongue-in-cheek derogatory term for an evaluator or social scientist who believes that the only meaningful evidence is that which comes from random control trials.”
