Microsoft will begin rolling out enhanced image generation capabilities within Copilot this month. Microsoft has integrated OpenAI’s GPT-4o model into Copilot, which brings advanced image generation capabilities. These include the ability to create detailed, photorealistic images and refine them based on previous images or uploaded images.
A summary of the rollout
- Image generation in Microsoft 365 Copilot is expected to become generally available between late June and late July 2025.
- To have full access to the enhanced image generation features in Microsoft 365 apps, users will need a Microsoft 365 Copilot license.
- Users without a Copilot license will still be able to use the feature, but will have a daily limit on the number of images they can generate in Copilot Chat.
New features
Here are the features you can expect:
- Multiple Image Generation: For each user prompt, the agent generates four images.
- Interactive Options: Users can view, download, copy, or view content credentials for generated images.
- Image Modification: Users can refine generated images with subsequent prompts.
- Feedback Mechanism: Users can provide feedback to help improve future image generations.
- Clipboard and Sharing: Users can copy images to the clipboard or share them directly from the interface.
How to prepare
The rollout of image generation will happen automatically, and no administrative action is needed. However, IT administrators should consider informing users and updating documentation.
