What does this mean for you?
As of April 1, Office 365 and Microsoft 365 suites with Teams are no longer being sold to new subscribers worldwide. Organizations who now wish to provide their end users with Teams will need to purchase two products: Microsoft Teams plus either the Microsoft 365 or Office 365 suite.
Microsoft 365 Business suites
Current subscribers to Microsoft 365 Business with Teams included will not be affected; these products will coexist with the new lineup. Customers may continue using their suites with Teams included or may switch to the new versions of those suites without Teams at a lower cost. (This would make sense for an organization that utilizes most of the applications within Microsoft 365 – Word, Excel, etc. – but uses, for example, Zoom for meetings instead of Teams.)
Enterprise suites
Existing Enterprise suite subscribers can continue to use, renew, upgrade, and add licenses to their current plans. If an existing customer wishes to switch to the new lineup of suites without Teams (at a lower price), they can do so on their contract anniversary or renewal.
Standalone Teams
The standalone version of Teams that Microsoft offers – which can be used for chatting, meetings and more – includes access to your calendar to make meeting scheduling easy. There is also an option to upgrade to Teams Phone.
