Who doesn’t love the convenience of free Wi-Fi—whether it’s at your neighborhood Starbucks, the grocery store, or the airport. I use it all the time for office calls, emails, and even little everyday life things. Like figuring out in which aisle at the supermarket I can find my favorite snacks. But lately, I’ve been hearing more about the risks of public Wi-Fi, so I decided to dig into some best practices to stay secure.

Here’s what I found:

How to Keep Your Info Safe on Public Wi-Fi

🔹 Use a VPN
A VPN (Virtual Private Network) encrypts your internet connection, making it much harder for hackers to snoop on your data. If you use public Wi-Fi often, investing in a reliable VPN is one of the best ways to stay secure.

🔹 Check the Network Name
Hackers love fake Wi-Fi! If you’re not sure it’s legit, skip it or ask staff for the official one.

🔹 Avoid Sensitive Transactions
Avoid banking or shopping on public Wi-Fi, but if you must, make sure the site starts with “https://” for a secure connection!

🔹 Turn Off Auto-Connect & File Sharing
Your device could hop onto public Wi-Fi or share files without you realizing it. Quick fix—turn both off in settings to stay secure.

🔹 Keep Antivirus Software Updated
Keep your antivirus up to date to block any sneaky malware lurking on public Wi-Fi.

🔹 Update Your Software!
Updates fix security gaps hackers love to exploit. Keep your phone, browser, and security apps up to date to stay protected.

Follow these tips to enjoy public Wi-Fi safely. Happy browsing!
